The project aimed at upgrading the Sarawak General Hospital through a public-private partnership (PPP) model known as BLMT (Build-Lease-Maintain-Transfer), utilizing the "Swiss Challenge" procurement method. This innovative project was commissioned by Unit Kerjasama Awam & Swasta (UKAS) with a significant investment of RM350 million. Construction began in 2017 and concluded in 2021.
The primary objective of this project was to enhance the healthcare infrastructure and services of the Sarawak General Hospital to serve the community better. The Swiss Challenge method allowed for a transparent and competitive process, ensuring the selection of the best proposal for the hospital upgrade.
The scope of work included comprehensive civil and structural engineering tasks to ensure that the upgraded facilities met the highest safety, functionality, and durability. This project played a crucial role in improving the hospital's capacity and capabilities, contributing significantly to the healthcare sector in Sarawak.
